Selling

Why "DM for price" is quietly costing you customers

Hiding the price has a logic behind it. It also loses the customers who were never going to ask twice. Here is the middle path that keeps both.

Ask any seller why the price is not in the caption and you get a good answer: competitors copy it, the price changes, and a DM is a chance to sell. All true. The problem is what happens to the people who will not ask.

The maths nobody runs

For every person who comments "price?", several more saw the post, wanted to know, and scrolled on. They will not message a stranger for a number. You never see them, so it never feels like a loss.

“The customers you lose to friction are invisible. That is exactly why the habit survives.”

The middle path

You do not have to publish your full price list to stop losing them. You have to make the answer instant. If a comment gets a reply in four seconds, hiding the price costs nothing — the conversation still starts, and you still get to sell.

  • Keep "comment PRICE" in the caption if you like the engagement.
  • Make sure the answer arrives in seconds, not hours.
  • Put the price in the DM in plain words, not only inside a link.
  • Send the card with a button so the next step is one tap.

When you should just show the price

If your product is cheap, standard and impulse-bought — food, small accessories, a fixed-price service — put the number in the caption. Friction costs more than copying does. Save the DM approach for things that vary: bridal packages, custom orders, property, anything with options.
