How we compared them
- 1Official API only. Every tool here connects through Meta’s official Instagram API — you sign in with Instagram and never hand over a password. Skip anything that asks for one.
- 2How the price grows. Per active contact, per DM sent, or flat. The question to ask: what happens to my bill when a reel gets 2,000 comments?
- 3The free plan. How many DMs or contacts, which features, and whether there is branding.
- 4AI replies. Sending a link on a keyword is table stakes. Answering “how much is it?” or “do you ship to Canada?” from your own information is not.
- 5The Instagram features you’ll use. Comment-to-DM, story replies and mentions, follow-to-unlock, email capture, conversation starters.

1. ohyap — best for AI replies at a flat price
ohyap is built around one idea: people don’t write in keywords. You write a short Knowledge Base once — what you offer, prices, how to join, your links — and the AI answers DMs in your tone, in whatever language people write, voice notes included. Keyword automations (comment-to-DM, story replies, post shares) run first; the AI covers everything else. Creator is $15/month for 10,000 messages with unlimited contacts, and the Free plan has every feature with 200 messages a month.
- Strong at: AI answers from your own words, flat pricing that doesn’t punish a viral post, follow-to-unlock plus email or phone capture, AI lead scores, a brand-deal detector, human-paced sending that steps aside when you reply by hand.
- Weaker at: channels (Instagram for creators; Instagram and WhatsApp for shops — no TikTok, Telegram, SMS or email), one account per plan for now, and a smaller free allowance (200 messages) than LinkDM or Zorcha. It can’t DM new followers automatically yet.
2. ManyChat — best for many channels and complex funnels
ManyChat is the biggest name in the category and the most complete: a visual flow builder, integrations, templates, team inbox routing, and channels from Instagram and TikTok to WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS and email. It is also testing a follow-to-DM automation that greets new followers — a beta where Meta, not ManyChat, decides which accounts are eligible, with a limit of one such message per person per week.
- Strong at: breadth, funnels, integrations, teams.
- Weaker at: price predictability. Since March 2026 every plan bills per active contact — the Free plan covers 25 a month, AI starts on Pro at $39 — so the bill rises exactly when a post works. Details in ManyChat pricing.
3. LinkDM — best for sending links at high volume
LinkDM is a focused comment-to-DM tool with one of the biggest free allowances: 1,000 DMs a month for one account. Pro is $19/month for 25,000 DMs ($182 billed yearly). If all you need is the link in the DM when someone comments, it is hard to beat on volume; its pricing page doesn’t mention AI-written replies. Head to head: LinkDM vs ManyChat.
4. CreatorFlow — best simple flat plan
CreatorFlow keeps it simple: 500 DMs a month free, Pro at $15/month ($12 billed yearly) for 5,000 DMs, Growth at $30 ($24 yearly) for 10,000 — flat tiers, no per-contact fees. Like LinkDM, its pricing page lists no AI replies. Head to head: CreatorFlow vs ManyChat.
5. Inrō — best AI agent if per-contact pricing suits you
Inrō includes an AI agent and a free plan with 100 activated contacts a month, 3 automations and 50 AI credits. Pro starts at €12.99/month and rises with the number of contacts you activate — the same shape as ManyChat’s billing, at a lower starting price.
6. Zorcha — best free plan
Zorcha has the most generous free plan we found: unlimited DMs and contacts, with 15K AI credits. Paid plans run from Pro at $14.99/month ($9.99 billed yearly) to Business at $109.99 ($79.99 yearly). AI is billed in credits, so heavy AI use is what moves you up a plan.
7. Meta Business Suite — best free built-in option
Meta’s own inbox is free and already connected. It offers an instant reply, an away message, FAQs, and custom keyword replies — up to 5 keywords per automation, case-sensitive, set up on desktop, and sent after 15 minutes if you haven’t answered. A comment to message automation replies to comments with specific hashtags. It’s worth switching on; it just won’t answer anything outside your exact keywords. How to set it up: Instagram auto reply.

Red flags when choosing a tool
- It asks for your Instagram password. Official tools never do — you authorise them through Meta’s own login.
- It promises to DM people who never messaged you. Meta’s rules let businesses message people who wrote first, commented, replied to a story or tapped your ad.
- “Unlimited” with no word on how. Unlimited plans exist (Zorcha’s free plan is one), but check that the tool is on the official API and paces what it sends.
- One identical message to everyone. Good tools vary public replies and let you write a real first line — copy-paste blasts are what get accounts limited.
Questions people ask
What is the best Instagram automation tool?
It depends on what you need. For AI replies at a flat price, ohyap. For many channels and complex funnels, ManyChat. For the biggest free allowance to send links, Zorcha or LinkDM. For free basics with no new tool, Meta Business Suite.
What is the best free Instagram DM automation tool?
For sending links, Zorcha (unlimited DMs and contacts) and LinkDM (1,000 DMs a month) have the biggest free plans. For AI replies, ohyap’s Free plan includes every feature with 200 messages a month. Meta Business Suite’s keyword replies are free too. A full comparison: ohyap.com/free-instagram-auto-dm.
Is Instagram automation allowed?
Yes, through Meta’s official API. Businesses can reply to people who message them, comment, reply to a story or tap an ad, with one private reply per comment within 7 days and further messages inside Meta’s messaging window. Tools that use your password or cold-message strangers break the rules.
Which Instagram automation tools have AI?
ohyap includes AI replies on every plan; Inrō includes an AI agent; Zorcha offers AI FAQs on credits; ManyChat’s AI starts on its Pro plan. LinkDM’s and CreatorFlow’s pricing pages don’t list AI replies.
Can automation tools DM my new followers?
Usually not. Meta’s public Instagram API doesn’t notify apps when someone follows you. Meta is testing a follow-to-DM feature with some accounts — ManyChat offers it as a beta, with eligibility decided by Meta and a limit of one message per person per week. ohyap doesn’t offer it yet.
Do I need a Facebook Page for Instagram automation?
Not with tools that use Instagram Login, like ohyap — it works with Instagram professional accounts without a linked Facebook Page. Some tools still connect through Facebook Login, which needs one.
